Coventry City Close In On Laurin Ulrich Loan Deal As Stuttgart Midfielder Prepares For Championship Move

Coventry City are on the verge of completing the loan signing of highly-rated German midfielder Laurin Ulrich from VfB Stuttgart, with all parties understood to have reached a full agreement ahead of the new Championship season.

The 21-year-old midfielder is expected to arrive in England within the next 24 hours to undergo a medical before officially joining Frank Lampard’s side on a season-long loan. The deal does not include an option to buy, as Stuttgart remain convinced that Ulrich has a long-term future at the Bundesliga club.

As part of the agreement, Ulrich has also committed his future to Stuttgart by signing a contract extension that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2028. The move reflects the German club’s confidence in his potential while allowing him to gain valuable first-team experience abroad.

Coventry have been searching for additional quality in central midfield following a busy summer window, and Lampard is believed to have personally approved the pursuit of the Germany youth international. The Sky Blues see Ulrich as a player capable of adding creativity, energy, and technical quality to the heart of the team.

Sources close to the negotiations indicate that Coventry moved quickly after learning the midfielder was available for another loan spell. Several clubs across Germany had shown interest in securing his services, but the opportunity to play regular football in England proved a major attraction for both the player and Stuttgart.

Ulrich has long been regarded as one of Stuttgart’s brightest academy products. After progressing through the club’s youth system, he made his senior debut at a young age and has represented Germany across several youth levels. His development has included valuable loan experiences, helping him mature both physically and tactically.

The midfielder is expected to fill an important role in Coventry’s squad, particularly as Lampard looks to build a side capable of challenging near the top end of the Championship table. His versatility allows him to operate as a central midfielder, attacking midfielder, or deeper playmaker, giving the Coventry manager several tactical options.

Supporters are already expressing excitement about the potential arrival, with many viewing the move as another sign of the club’s ambition. Coventry have shown a willingness to invest in young talent with high ceilings, and Ulrich fits that profile perfectly.

While the deal is not yet officially announced, all indications suggest that only the completion of the medical remains before the transfer is confirmed. If everything proceeds as expected, Ulrich could be unveiled as a Coventry City player before the end of the weekend.

For Coventry, the signing would represent a significant addition ahead of a demanding Championship campaign. For Ulrich, it offers the chance to test himself in one of Europe’s most competitive leagues while continuing his development under Frank Lampard’s guidance.

An official announcement is now expected shortly.
