LEGENDS RETURN TO THE BRICKYARD: Danica Patrick, Tony Stewart, and a Star-Studded Gathering Grace the 2025 Indy 500
Indianapolis, IN – May 25, 2025
The echoes of roaring engines, the scent of rubber and fuel in the air, and a crowd of over 300,000 passionate fans created the backdrop for another historic edition of the Indianapolis 500. Yet, beyond the high-octane action on the track, the 109th running of “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” became a poignant tribute to legacy, tradition, and the enduring magnetism of the sport. The 2025 Indy 500 turned into more than a race—it became a celebration of motorsport’s greatest icons.
Among the many highlights of this year’s race was the impressive turnout of distinguished motorsports figures. Two of the most notable personalities drawing cameras and fan attention were Danica Patrick, the trailblazing former IndyCar and NASCAR driver, and Tony Stewart, the semi-retired racing legend and three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, who also boasts deep ties to IndyCar and the Brickyard.
The Return of Racing Royalty
Danica Patrick, long revered for her groundbreaking accomplishments as the most successful woman in the history of American open-wheel racing, returned to the venue where her career first captured global attention. Patrick, who made history in 2005 as the first woman to lead laps at the Indy 500 and later finished third in 2009, has remained a prominent figure in motorsports even after her retirement in 2018.
Dressed in an elegant yet understated black racing-style jacket, Patrick took her place in the broadcasting booth once again, joining NBC’s expert team of commentators for the live race coverage. Her presence, however, was felt far beyond the press box. During pre-race festivities, she walked the paddock and garage area, stopping to talk with teams, drivers, and fans who eagerly lined up for autographs and selfies.
“It’s surreal to be back here,” Patrick said in an interview on race day. “This place holds some of my most cherished memories. Every time I return, it’s like stepping into a time capsule of emotion, competition, and pure adrenaline.”
Tony Stewart, a beloved son of Indiana and a former IndyCar driver himself, also made a highly anticipated appearance at this year’s event. The Columbus, Indiana native has always maintained a special connection to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Stewart began his professional racing journey in open-wheel cars, winning the 1997 Indy Racing League championship before transitioning to an immensely successful career in NASCAR.
Sporting his signature cap and a Stewart-Haas Racing polo shirt, Stewart mingled with old friends, current drivers, and racing officials.
